Various reports are suggesting that Charlton are on the verge of signing Leyton Orient’s prolific marksman, Macauley Bonne, on a four year contract.
Ipswich born Bonne has a year left on his deal with Orient, so the Addicks would have to pay a fee for him.
Bonne is 23-years-old, and recently made his debut for Zimbabwe. He came through the youth system at Colchester, and had loan spells with Lincoln and Woking, before joining Orient.
He has been prolific in his two seasons at Brisbane Road, and played every minute of every game as the east London outfit fought their way to the National League title.
Bonne’s goalscoring exploits have naturally attracted plenty of interest. Premier League Leicester – who bought Jamie Vardy from then non-league Fleetwood – are amongst his admirers. Sunderland are another club to have shown interest.
His signing would be a bit of a gamble. But Bonne is young, and could be developed at The Valley, so he matches the criteria of the type of player Roland Duchatelet would pay a fee for.
He would be an interesting acquisition.
