The Addicks are likely to confirm an appointment or two this week. Top of the agenda is the managerial vacancy of course.
Nigel Adkins – replaced by Chris Wilder at Bramall Lane – appears to be the front runner still. But the longer it goes without an announcement, the less likely it is that Adkins
will get the job.
After looking set to come to Charlton, Wilder did a u-turn and joined Sheffield United on the day his unveiling was due at The Valley. That was two weeks ago now. If Adkins was that coveted by the Addicks, and he wanted the job, would a deal not have been struck by now?
Former Celtic number two, John Collins, was also strongly linked a couple of weeks ago, but again, the trail appears to have cooled.
Billy Davies is a name that has emerged over the last 24 hours or so. The former Motherwell, Preston and Derby manager has not been in charge of a club since being dismissed by Nottingham Forest in 2014.
Davies was close to coming to The Valley a decade ago, but the Addicks board switched their attention to Iain Dowie following his departure from Crystal Palace.
Davies will be 52-years-old at the end of the month, and would relish a return to full time management.
He is experienced at building teams, and could fit the bill at The Valley, though his obdurate nature would ruffle a few feathers.
It would be surprising if Charlton did not make an appointment this week.
The manager’s position is not the only vacancy in SE7 though, and there could be more news revealed during the course of the week.
