Hythe Town continued their pre-season programme as they drew 1-1 with Bostik Premier, Dorking Wanderers, at a sultry Reachfields on Saturday afternoon.
The visitors were first to attack after six minutes as Sam Beard played the ball into Luke Moore but he spooned the ball over the bar. However it was the Cannons who looked the more dangerous as after eleven minutes Kieron Campbell played the ball into Zak Ansah who passedback to Campbell whose final attempt went of the target. Mitchell Chapman then came into the action as he slotted the ball through to Jack Sammountis whose attempt was side-footed into the side netting.
Campbell and Ansah teamed up again as the former played the ball into Hythe’s prolific striker with it ending up with Josh Stirman whose final attempt was blocked by Dorking keeper Huk Slavomir. Hythe finally took a deserved lead on sixteen minutes as Sammoutis had a couple of attempts blocked before the ball fell to Ansah who finished off from close range.
Dorking were creating the odd opportunity during the rest of the half as a Moore corner was spooned over by James McShane. Ansah then cut in from the left but his effort was blocked. As the half progressed Dorking began to look more threatening as Beard moved in and shot wide and then with four minutes until the break Niall McManus was denied by a great block from Hythe keeper George Kamurasi.
The heat was definitely taking its toll with the second half providing less opportunities. On 50 minutes however the visitors really should have been level as the prolific striker Keiron Lavery wasted an opportunity from point blank range and then JJ O’Sullivan launched the ball over the bar. On 55 minutes Wanderers got their equaliser with Tom Tolfrey working himself free and placing the ball in the far corner.
Hythe had a couple of chances to retake the lead as firstly Junior Aikhionbare collected the ball and moved forward but drove just wide and then Charlie Webster found Ryan Palmer but Slavomir was quick to block. One more opportunity for the visitors with eleven minutes to go as Lavery crossed to Guiseppe Sole who headed over. The game petered out into a one all draw that was a fair reflection of the afternoon’s entertainment.
Hythe now look forward to their next pre-season game as they travel the short distance down to Lydd Town on Tuesday evening for a 7:45pm kick off.
