On Saturday Welling United are on the road when they travel to Hungerford Town in a Vanarama National League South fixture.
Their last match was on Tuesday evening when they were defeated in their third of three home games in a row, a run in which they picked up just one point.
In the final one, they entertained Hemel Hempstead Town, former Welling manager Brad Quinton’s current club.
In the first hour, there was little to choose between the two teams with few real chances at either end. The Tudors then started to threaten more, although mainly held to hopeful long range shots.
However, with ten minutes remaining, the Welling defence switched off and allowed the Tudors to take a short corner that was delivered deep.
Former Dartford centre-back Kory Roberts headed it back and it hit the luckless Jamie Sendles-White and flew into the net.
There has been an improvement in the form of Hungerford of late. A few weeks ago, they looked destined for the drop but, prior to their two-one defeat at Worthing on Saturday, they had won three league games on the trot to take them off the foot of the table.
They defeated both St Albans City and Hemel Hempstead three-nil on home soil before winning one-nil at Cheshunt.
When Welling entertained the Crusaders in late October, the Wings claimed one of their four home wins so far this season, courtesy of a Devonte Aransibia penalty.
Even though Welling were reduced to ten men, it was only goalkeeper Tyla Dickinson who kept it down to one.
At home, Hungerford have won five, drawn five and lost seven and have only lost one league game at home since the end of October.
Last season’s corresponding match at Bulpit Lane saw Welling claim a vital three points in their fight to avoid the drop, although the win seemed improbable with ten minutes remaining. Duane Ofori-Acheampong put the Crusaders ahead five minutes into the second half.
Nine minutes remained on the clock when Dipo Akinyemi equalised in spectacular style. Then, on ninety minutes, Welling stunned the hosts’ supporters through Alfie Matthews slot home.
That was not the end of the drama, though. Matthews got shown a second yellow card for a foul after six minutes of stoppage time. Goalkeeper Luke Cairney went up for the free kick and although it was half cleared it fell to him as he was on his way back and he unleashed a thunderbolt that came back off the bar.
Warren Feeney will again be without the suspended Amadou Kassarate but he will be hoping to have Taylor Maloney back available to bolster his midfield.
