A dominant second half performance inspired by the brilliant Berkeley-Agyepong sees Dartford come from behind to beat Hungerford Town and return to the top of the National League South on Saturday.
Third place Hungerford had taken a first half lead when Ryan Seager scored from the penalty spot but two second half goals from Jacob Berkeley-Agyepong meant the Darts returned home with three points.
Dartford came in to the game knowing a point would take them back to the top of the table having dropped to second place following Dorking’s win midweek. There was a rare start for Marsh-Brown as Steve King made two changes to last week’s side, also bringing back Barnum-Bobb.
On a pitch with an obvious slope the visitors kicked off playing downhill and Jebb was unable to take advantage of an early free kick ten yards outside the penalty area, his effort going over the bar.
Hungerford’s top scorer Seager had an effort from range that he curled just wide before a cross in the box was sliced just wide by a Dartford defender.
After his impressive debut last week, Dickson had a half chance to score again as he received the ball in the box but his shot on the turn was weak and comfortably saved.
On the half hour mark the hosts were awarded a controversial penalty as McCallum was adjudged to have brought down Seager following a quick counter attack. Seager converted the spot kick driving low in to the bottom corner beating Wady who went the right way.
Hungerford thought they had gone two up when Angell headed home only to see the assistant referee’s flag up.
Dartford started the second half brightly as they searched for an equaliser. Essam had an effort from range but it was weak and easily saved.
After some good passing from the visitors, Dickson back heeled the ball to Marsh-Brown whose first time effort was fierce but straight at Cairney.
Dartford’s pressure paid off when two substitutes combined. Pavey headed a free kick down to Berkeley-Agyepong to fire home.
The visitors should have taken the lead when Pavey had a free header from a corner but he was unable to get a good connection and headed well wide.
They didn’t have to wait long though and when Berkeley-Agyepong picked the ball up from a throw in there didn’t look like there was any danger. After dribbling the ball into the middle he then fired them ahead with a fabulous strike from range into the bottom corner.
It was no less than Dartford deserved for their second half performance and they were able to comfortably see out the game to secure the three points.
Dartford return to action next Saturday when they travel to Eastbourne Borough.
