Hull City 1-0 Charlton Athletic

A kindly steward let me in to have a look at the KC pitch just after midday. After the recent weather and reported problems with the surface in midweek, it was surprising to see it being watered.Hull

Chris Powell tinkered with his formation and personnel again. Scott Wagstaff dropped to the bench with Bradley Pritchard returning in midfield.

Though deployed in his usual wide right berth, Lawrie Wilson played further forward than normal. Pritchard, Dale Stephens and Johnnie Jackson played in the centre with Yann Kermorgant filling in on the left when required.

The problem was that when Kermorgant drifted wide he was too far away from Fuller to be able link up with his strike partner effectively. Also, there was a chasm of space on the left for Hull to exploit. Cedric Evina was left exposed and most of Hull’s threat came down Charlton’s left flank.

Both Stephens and Cort headed off the line in the first half and what proved to be the winning goal, came from a corner after Jackson blocked a cross from the left.

Hamer came out to collect the ball but missed it completely. Gedo poked it home from close range.

The Addicks came more into the game after the break but the Tigers also had chances to put the result beyond doubt. Charlton need to regroup quickly, they have another tough trip – this time to Leicester – on Tuesday.
