Sevenoaks Town boss Harry Hudson, has called for his side to show their true colours and find their form ahead of the weekend clash with Erith & Belvedere and improve on their indifferent form away from home.
In their last away game, Hudson saw his side thumped 4-0 at Hythe leaving the manager retisant as he reflected, “We hadn’t played well before that trip and we were missing important players, and it was a disappointing result, although I can’t say that we didn’t see it coming as a staff, yet the week prior we had beaten Herne Bay and Lancing without playing well in either game.”
“When you do not play well and win it will eventually come back and bite you as it did at Hythe.”
“I think everyone at the Club will agree that we have not really started very well – we have not played how we would want to play and have not in any way clicked yet.”
“That being said, we are still doing all right in our League position – Hythe beat us, but we are still ahead of them, and we have not had a particularly easy schedule to start the season either.”
“There are some positives to draw from that as long as we put it right in improving the performances quickly, because if we had not taken those points, we would already be eight or nine points off the pace already.”
“I think if we win our game in hand we will go second in the table. I know that Ramsgate and Cray Valley are behind us with a “million” games to play to catch up and even if they win all their games, we will still be sitting in the Play Offs.”
“It’s certainly a period of reflection that we haven’t clicked yet, but are still picking up points!”
“The exposure that Ramsgate, Cray Valley and of course Sheppey have given the League by reaching the First Round of the FA Cup is massive and it’s fantastic that the three teams are still there flying the flag!”
“Massive congratulations to the three clubs and I hope that they continue to do well.” Hudson said, before admitting, “and that is not just because it will make their League schedule even more difficult!”
“It is great for the League, and they are three brilliant Clubs as well with really good management and good ethos and all three teams play good football and really wish all of them good luck!”
“We experienced their problems last year when we had a run in the Cup which meant that we’d only played three League games by the middle of October and it’s not easy playing catch up and I’m sure that all three are slightly reticent about that as you’ll also have the come down when you’re doing such for these massive games as that FA Cup journey comes to an end and you get that natural hangover.”
“All three clubs though have strong squads so I am sure they will have ways and plans to get round that as what is likely to be Saturday, Tuesday for the foreseeable future…”
“We face Erith on Saturday – they’ve got a fantastic squad and some of the best players individually in the League and you know that they are a dangerous side, despite their disappointing start, and we don’t want to be the ones who they come good against after being tipped to be up there at the start of the season.”
“We then go to Burgess Hill on Tuesday. Tuesday night away games deep into the County or into Sussex is never easy and we know that it will be another tough place to go. The League is still so tight and if we can pick up two wins it will put us in a great position.”
“We are hoping to get a new signing over the line for the weekend – someone we have been trying to get for a while – and we will have Matty Warren back after he missed the trip to Hythe and he’s a huge player for us. We’ve a couple of others who are getting close from being at full complement!”
