The Addicks will be based in Yorkshire for the next few days and will not return home until after Tuesday’s game at Doncaster.FA Cup

The game was played in a variety of weather, bright, dull, heavy rain and a strong, swirling wind.

Yann Kermorgant was not involved in the match, though he was in the travelling party.

As is so often the case, Huddersfield’s wide players, Adam Hamill and Danny Ward, caused the Addicks problems. Cedric Evina picked up a knock early on and though he continued until the 35th minute, the injury appeared to affect Evina’s concentration.

With Rhoys Wiggins serving the last match of his suspension at Doncaster on Tuesday, and Evina unlikely to recover in time, Chris Powell may have to call Morgan Fox into the squad.

Hamill’s afternoon ended just before the half hour mark when he was clattered by Dale Stephens. The Charlton midfielder was fortunate to get away with just a yellow card.

Evina’s premature departure from the match allowed another academy product – Harry Lennon – to make his first team debut. Normally a centre-back, Lennon slotted in on the left.

The Addicks were on the back foot for most of the first half and Powell would have been delighted to have seen his team on level terms at the break.

As is so often the case, Charlton were a different team after the interval and they sealed their spot in the fifth round draw within ten minutes of the restart.

Astrid Ajdarevic fed Lawrie Wilson, who went on a rampaging run. As he entered the penalty area, Wilson fed Simon Church who slid the ball past Alex Smithies right hand and into the far corner of the net.

Mark Robins immediately introduced Sean Scannell to attack Lennon, then a few minutes later, he sent Huddersfield’s wonder kid, Duane Holmes, on. The duo caused the visitors real problems and Powell withdrew Ajdarevic and replaced him with Jordan Cousins.

Cousins helped the Addicks wrest the initiative from the Terriers. Holmes and Scannell saw less of the ball and Charlton were reasonably comfortable.

The turnaround after the break was stark and Charlton deservedly go into the hat for the fifth round draw, for the first time in eight years.
