Huddersfield v Charlton Ath Preview

Since Charlton’s last visit to Huddersfield, the ground has been rebranded as the John Smith’s Stadium.Huddersfield

Whatever the name, it is always a difficult place to go. The task will not be made any easier this time by the condition of the pitch which is in even worse shape than its Valley counterpart.

Last season’s game was shrouded in controversy when Darel Russell was sent off but a horor challenge on Scott Wagstaff did get the same reaction from referee, Carl Boyeson.

Losing talismanic top scorer, Jordan Rhodes, to Blackburn has had an obvious effect on the Terriers but they are still formidable foes on their own ground. They have won six, drawn eight and lost four of their eighteen home matches and are currently unbeaten in their last nine at the John Smith’s. Wideman, Danny Ward, has always caused the Addicks problems, as has former Palace front man, Alan Lee.

Simon Grayson recently lost his job despite securing promotion for Huddersfield three months after his appointment. Former Coventry boss, Mark Robins, is the new man at the helm.

It was refreshing to see Chris Powell play 4-4-2 against Peterborough on Tuesday and to see the team press for a third goal after turning a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead. It seems unlikely that Mark Gower’s loan move to The Valley will be completed in time for him to be available for this game.

Powell may stick with his more attack minded style but will have one or two decisions to make. Ben Hamer could return in goal and the industry of Scott Wagstaff may be preferred to the trickery of Callum Harriott on the left side of midfield. Dale Stephens will be another pressing for a recall.

Charlton could line up like this:

Hamer; Solly, Taylor, Morrison, Wiggins; Wilson, Pritchard, Jackson,Wagstaff; Fuller, Haynes.

Subs: Button, Evina, Dervite, Green, Stephens, Harriott, Obika.

Former Premier League whistler, Keith Stroud from Hampshire, will be the man in charge.

A tough game on a difficult pitch may result in another draw for the Addicks.
