Hornchurch vs Welling United – Preview

On Monday afternoon, Welling United are in Vanarama National League South action when they visit Hornchurch.

It will be their first Bank Holiday fixture of the season and they will be looking to claim something on the road, having lost their only away game so far, a one-nil defeat at Bath City. On Saturday they entertained Farnborough, and ended the last remaining one hundred percent record in the division by beating them four-one. Although the visitors went ahead early, Anointed Chukwu opened his account on his debut to level, and Zain Walker added a second before going off injured.

Gene Kennedy made it three before half time and a second half own goal rounded off the scoring.

At the same time, Hornchurch were at Slough Town and lost two-one after Tom Wraight put them ahead. Their home record so far has been one win and one loss. After losing by the only goal against Eastbourne Borough, they defeated St. Albans City one-nil.

Three former Wings are in the Urchins squad with Kodi Lyons-Foster, Nathan Green and Ade Yusuff all hoping to start against their former club.

As Hornchurch were only promoted last season, there were no meetings between the two teams last season. In fact, Welling have not visited the club in the league, at that time called Blue Square Bet South, since Boxing Day 2012 when winning three-nil.

Walker’s injury means that he may have to miss out at Hornchurch but Jack Burchell will be back in contention having completed his one match ban.
