Horlock pushing for Chatham win

Kevin Horlock takes his Chatham Town side to Woodstock Park for a Medway/Swale derby that could have huge implications for both sides, as Sittingbourne lost their 13th League game in a row on Tuesday night when Herne Bay completed the “double” over their Kent neighbours.

Speaking after watching the Brickies latest defeat, the Chats boss told KSN, “Both teams are desperate to get back to winning ways and we’re both be looking for the points to get away from the bottom of the table. I would imagine that it’ll be a very strongly contested afternoon which hopefully sees us come out on top.”

“We’ve had a couple of disappointing home results in the last week or so as I was hoping we were going to pick up a few more points than we did and start getting away from the wrong end of the table. Last Saturday was especially disappointing more so as once we got the equaliser, I really thought that we were going to be the team that went on to win the game.”

“So to concede again and losing again by the odd goal was really frustrating. Hopefully we can get it out of our systems against Sittingbourne on Saturday with a good performance and more importantly three points!”

After thirteen successive defeats, Sittingbourne supporters will be hoping that their historical record against the Chats will finally see them win a League game for the first time since September, and ease some of the pressure on beleaguered boss Nick Davis.

Horlock though is under no illusions as to what his side must do to heep more misery on the Woodstock faithful.

“I understand that our record against them down the years is pretty dreadful and to be fair that pleases me more than to be told that we always go there and win as it means if they are our bogey side that has to, by the law of averages, have to come to an end soon and hopefully that will be Saturday,” Horlock admitted.

“It’s tough on Nick isn’t it? I’ve watched a lot of local games since I took over and teams in this League can beat anyone at any time. And whether they’ve had the rub of the green or not, when I saw them against Herne Bay, they look like a team that’s been on a bad run.”

“Football as we all know is a funny old game and one result can change all that, so both sides will be looking to get what has become three very important points on Saturday and have a strong second half to the season.”
