Holy departure from Gills confirmed

New Gillingham boss Steve Evans has a huge hole to fill when he formally takes over on June 1st because the club don’t currently have a goalkeeper following the news that Tomas Holy has followed Tom Hadler out of the Priestfield dressing room for pastures new.

For after back-up Hadler’s left the club earlier in the week and moved on from Priestfield, news broke on Friday afternoon that last season’s number one has refused the new contract the club and will be leaving Kent.

Fans meanwhile feared that Holy would be moving on and their worst fears have been confirmed with the news that he had joined the “Tractor-Boys” (Ipswich Town) on a two year deal.

The six foot nine stopper who had become a fans’ favourite arrived at Priestfield in January 2017 and appeared between the sticks 107 times for the Gills.

“I enjoyed my two years at Gillingham and want to thank them for the opportunity they gave me but it feels the right time to take up a new challenge at Ipswich,” Holy told the Ipswich website.

“It’s a massive club and I’m looking forward to meeting up with the squad for pre-season and will be ready to play my part in helping Ipswich try to get back in the Championship.”

The new boss described his new job as one of the most challenging of his career – it just got six foot nine inches tougher with Holy’s departure…
