Holmesdale v Phoenix Sports preview

Holmesdale host Phoenix Sports in the SCEFL Premier Division at Oakley Road on Wednesday night in a game that could influence the league table at both ends.

The Dalers go into the game needing three points from their last four matches to be guaranteed league safety. Lee Roots’ side have hit a poor run of form in the last couple of months, losing eleven of their last twelve games, which has seen the slip towards the bottom two.

On Saturday Holmesdale lost 2-0 at home to Rusthall leaving them on 31 points from 34 games, two points ahead of Canterbury City in nineteenth, who have one game remaining.

Phoenix go into the match sitting in second place behind Erith & Belvedere who sealed the league title at the weekend, but Sports need to win their last two matches to secure second place and the play off place, with Erith Town and Deal Town hot on their tail.

On Saturday Phoenix lost 3-2 away at Whitstable Town leaving them on 75 points from 36 games. Francis Babalola and Michael Dalton scoring the goals, before The Oystermen won it in injury time.

This is the he second attempt to play this fixture, last month Steve O’Boyle’s team were leading 3-0 when the original game was abandoned due to a waterlogged pitch at half time. Since then Phoenix won the reverse fixture 4-0 at The Mayplace Ground, Alfie Evans, Matt Bourne, Tasha Jay-Kwaiye and Ryan Sawyer on target that night.

This is a huge game for both teams and promising to be a cracker.

Entrance for the game is £8 for adults and £5 for concessions.

Kick Off 7:45pm.
