Holmesdale 1-2 Sutton Athletic

Sutton Athletic picked up their first SCEFL Premier Division win of the season with a dramatic injury time winner away at Holmesdale on Tuesday night, courtesy of a wonder striker from Arun Suman with virtually the last kick of an entertaining game.

The game got off to a lively start with the rain swirling round Oakley Road, Sutton Athletic looking the more positive of the two sides with England Kurti and Elias Ahmed going close.

With Holmesdale struggling to get going it was the visitors who took the lead on 22 minutes when a quick passing move ended with Kurti firing a low powerful drive that took a deflection and skidded under Cameron Hall into the Dale net for 0-1.

Taylor Fisher then saw a long range effort go just over for Athletic with the visitors doing most of the pressing right up until the break.

The second half saw Holmesdale start looking far more on the front foot, Cameron Smart and Lewis Heywood both had efforts saved by Cameron Sanghera in the visitors goal and they also had a penalty turned down as there had been an offside earlier in the move.

With Dale continuing to press James Abubakari made a superb sliding block to deny Mecca Samuels, colliding with Sanghera who had to receive treatment.

The pressure from the home side eventually paid off on 73 minutes, when a fierce long range low strike from Sam Bayford slipped through the hands of Sanghera and into the corner of the net to make it 1-1.

Jack Church went close to putting Holmesdale in front soon after, before Sutton came back into things with Ahmed and Kola Salami both having shots saved by Hall.

Heading towards full time, Dale striker Heywood had a goal ruled out for hand ball from a corner and Samuels forced another save from Sanghera.

Then with 5 minutes of added on time drawing to a close Suman picked up the ball 35 yards from goal and unleashed an unstoppable drive that sailed over Hall and dipped just under the bar before crashing into the net and securing all three points for Sutton Athletic in the most dramatic fashion.

There was barely time to take the kick off before the final whistle signalled the victory for Sutton Athletic much to the joy of their players, management and travelling support.

The result sees Holmesdale remain in second place, while Sutton Athletic now move up to fourteenth in the table.
