Charlton confirmed on Monday afternoon that Ricky Holmes had joined Championship outfit, Sheffield United.
Holmes is the current Player Of The Year, and scored 19 goals in his 64 appearances for the club.
Richard Murray had this to say after Holmes’ departure was confirmed:
”I’d like to thank Ricky for his contribution to the club while he was here. He scored some special goals that will live long in the memory with Charlton fans.
“As everyone is aware, the owner is talking to various parties about a potential takeover and while that is ongoing he has said there will not be funds made available to bring players in on a permanent basis.
“With Ricky going, however, that does free up some space on the wage bill and Karl, Steve Gallen and the team will be looking at how best to utilise that.”
So Robinson will be able to bring in loan players. Samir Carruthers is a player he knows well, but he may feel that Stephy Mavididi can replace Holmes.
A striker is the manager’s top priority, and he will be hoping that head of recruitment, Steve Gallen, will be able to find a suitable player.
