Margate Football Club have announced that they have appointed goalkeeper Craig Holloway as Caretaker Manager.Craig Holloway Signing HR

Craig was former Manager Chris Kinnear’s first summer signing, putting pen to paper on 1st June, 2012. He is a Pro-1 Goalkeeping Academy coach and a former Arsenal professional who worked with David Seaman and Bob Wilson. He is hoping to appoint additional coaching support very shortly.

The appointment of Craig as Caretaker provides the opportunity for the directors to fully assess more than 40 applications – some high profile – for the role of Manager.

CEO Cliff Egan told the club’s official website: “While we need more time to properly assess all the applications we have received, we felt we needed to have someone formerly in place for the next few matches.

“Who knows, in his role as Caretaker, Craig may make it difficult for us to give the job to anyone else!

“But whoever gets the role on a permanent basis, we think it’s a great opportunity to capitalise on the momentum built up under Chris Kinnear’s tenure at the club.”

The Directors met with all the players after training yesterday (Tuesday) evening at Hartsdown Park and once again they gave their commitment to the club; the promotion challenge and are fully behind Craig and his appointment.

Meanwhile, Holloway has moved quickly to appoint his coaching staff.

Craig has brought in former Margate favourite Danny Hockton and former Crystal Palace, Wolves,Gillingham and Walsall midfielder Simon Osborn.

Danny comes in as coach. He has been player-coach at Ryman League Division 1 South FavershamTown but is most remembered at Hartsdown Park for scoring 40 goals in 46 appearances in the 2006/07 season.

Simon comes in as Assistant to Craig. He enjoyed a long career in the Football League before moving into the non-league game. He has managerial experience from Bromley and as assistant to Paul Merson at Walsall.

CEO Cliff Egan said: “I’m delighted that Danny and Simon have come in to support Craig.

“Danny needs no introduction to Margate fans; everyone remembers his amazing goal-scoring record.

“I know Simon from my time at Wolves when he played under Mark McGhee’s management in Football League Division 1 (now the Championship).”
