Holcombe’s Teague Marcano shines at Pan Am Challenge

Holcombe’s Teague Marcano co-captained Trinidad & Tobago to victory at the recent Pan Am Challenge event in Lima, Peru.

Marcano, 24, scored 29 of Trinidad’s 54 goals in just seven matches in South America to scoop the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.

Their campaign kicked off with a 2-0 win over Peru before 22 goals were scored in the next two matches in respective 9-0 wins over Guatemala and Paraguay.

Peru were then beaten once more, this time 6-1 as Trinidad conceded for the first time in the tournament, before big wins came again over Guatemala (11-0) and Paraguay (13-1).

Those results set up a final with hosts Peru who were dispatched 6-0 as Trinidad & Tobago won gold.

Marcano started every match, scoring braces in the first and last matches of the tournament, interrupted by five consecutive hat-tricks, scoring four, six, four, four and seven in those matches respectively.

Marcano now has 60 goals in 49 outdoor caps for his country ahead of being set to make his competitive Holcombe debut this weekend against Wimbledon.

Paraguay ran out as bronze medallists courtesy of beating Guatemala 2-1 in the third/fourth-place play-off.
