Holcombe meet Old Georgians in what looks set to be an enthralling battle on Saturday evening (18:30).
Holcs and their visitors have both won all three of their opening matches – Kwan Browne’s men have beaten Wimbledon, Cardiff & Met and Hampstead & Westminster, while the champions have beaten Bowdon, Southgate and Richmond, racking up 26 goals in the process including 12 last time out.
Under Browne, Holcombe have made an impressive start with a number of new signings making an impact amid a different style of play and press to last season – the start only made more impressive when you consider that they have beaten two of last season’s League Finals weekend qualifiers in the first three matches under a new head coach.
Tom Russell, Matt Ramshaw, Mubashar Ali and Teague Marcano have all scored two goals across the three matches without a win Tim Neild, Rohan Bhuhi, Ali Shan and Rob Field also netting, taking Holcs’ goal tally to 12.
Old Georgians strengthened once more over the summer to add the likes of Phil Roper, David Ames and Ian Sloan to a squad already littered with internationals past and present, though many of their goals have come from longer-term players – Sam Ward, for example, already has eight for the season with two hat-tricks and a brace thus far.
The sides met three times last season – once in each phase. Ashley Jackson’s side won all three meetings narrowly, winning 2-1 at Holcombe Park in September in a game which Holcs dominated before they were unlucky to lose 3-2 and 4-2 in both meetings at St. George’s College respectively.
Jackson – a former Holcombe player himself – could name a number of former Holcs in his squad with Roper, Ames, Ward and George Pinner all making appearances in early-season match day squads. Chris Bowen, a former Holcombe player and Women’s Head Coach, is also Jackson’s assistant.
Entry is free at Holcombe Park and updates will be provided across our social media channels.
