Holcombe appoint Glynn to coaching team

Holcombe Hockey Club have confirmed the appointment of Katie Glynn to their Women’s 1s coaching team.

Glynn, a current Great Britain assistant coach, played 134 times for New Zealand as a forward, scoring 77 goals.

She appeared at the London 2012 Olympic Games after winning a Commonwealth Games silver medal in 2010 before transitioning into coaching where she initially worked with New Zealand’s age group squads ahead of a spell with the senior set-up.

The deadly forward, who debuted for her country in 2009, also won bronze at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and in the 2011 Champions Trophy as well as a gold medal in the 2009 Champions Challenge in Cape Town.

Glynn joined the Great Britain staff in late 2020 and has been part of two Olympic campaigns as a coach since then, in Tokyo and Paris. GB won bronze in Tokyo with Glynn acting as an assistant to David Ralph.

Glynn said: “I’m delighted to be joining the coaching team of the Women’s 1st XI at Holcombe.

“It’s an exciting opportunity to team up with Brad and work with a talented group of players.

“I am really looking forward to being part of the club and seeing what we can achieve in this second half of the season.”

On Glynn’s appointment, Club President David South MBE said: “I am delighted to welcome Katie Glynn to our Women’s 1st XI coaching team.

“As a former New Zealand international and now Assistant Coach to Great Britain’s women’s team, Katie brings a wealth of world-class experience to Holcombe.

“We are excited to have her on board and look forward to the impact she will have on this squad for the remainder of this season and moving forward.”

Glynn will work alongside fellow New Zealander Brad Read in the coaching team.

They will also have the services of another compatriot to call upon with Black Sticks international Tessa Reid a key part of the Holcombe defence.

We are delighted to welcome Katie to the club and can’t wait to see the team in action.

Glynn will first be involved with Holcombe in a competitive match on Saturday, 8 March (13:30) as Holcombe take on Bowdon in their second Premier Division Phase Two match at Bowdon Club.
