Old Georgians’ late double snatches victory against Holcombe.
Despite going ahead twice through Alex Pendle, two goals in the final quarter sealed the victory for Old Georgians against Holcombe.
Holcombe started the match the livelier of the two sides, with a series of early chances coming in the opening minutes.
They were able take the lead through Pendle, who darted through the Old Georgians’ defence and flicked the ball past former Holcombe man George Pinner in goal.
It wasn’t long before Old Georgians had their equaliser, however, when James Carson received the ball on the edge of the area, he turned and shot, finding the backboard.
It was Pendle who put his side ahead once again as he made a diagonal run across the pitch before slotting the ball home.
Less than a minute later, a defensive error put Tom Carson through on goal, levelling up the score before half-time.
There was a series of chances for both sides – Chris Proctor’s shot deflected off the crossbar for Old Georgians before Barry Middleton’s side slotted the ball into the goal. It was ruled out soon after for the ball being lifted in the buildup.
The score remained level until late on, in the final quarter when Alan Forsyth found Chris Griffiths waiting at the far post to tuck the ball away.
Tom Carson put his side further ahead, with a low driven shot which decisively found the bottom corner.
A late Sam Taylor effort gave his side hope, as he scored the flick from a penalty corner with a minute to go. However, Holcs were not able to score again and fell to defeat against the table-toppers.
