Hit and miss weekend for Jackson
Hit and miss weekend for Jackson

Kent’s Tom Jackson had a hit and miss weekend at the latest round of the Ginetta Junior championship from Knockhill.Tom Jackson in action again

The young driver qualified his Ginetta G40 on the front row for race one of the weekend and then race three he would start from third on the grid.

With qualifying having gone so well for him, Tom was rightly buoyed heading into the two races on Saturday and Sunday.

However, things didn’t quite go according to plan for the up and coming racing driver he slipped down the field slightly from the start.

That was mainly down to Will Palmer and Keith Donegan getting a lightening quick start as the lights went out and challenging pole sitter Harry Woodhead for the lead.

Jackson did make up a place early in the race when Woodhead lost the lead but he couldn’t get back and challenge the leaders as he would have liked, but he was always there snapping at their heels and ready to pounce should any of the front three make a mistake in the closing stages.

That mistake did happen but unfortunately for Jackson it was race leader Donegan as he took a slide at Clark Corner, but with the chasing trio so far behind no one could capitalise on it.

Tom had to settle for a solid fourth place and hope that he would have better luck in race two and challenge for the podium as his pace showed he could do.

It wasn’t to be unfortunately as on the opening lap as Jackson who had started the race in P3 was involved in a racing incident.

The incident involving Jack Mitchell was in no way the Kent drivers fault, as they made contact on lap one of the race. It sent both cars off onto the gravel and meant that Jackson’s promising race weekend was ended in a fashion that he really didn’t want.

Unfortunately with this retirement it meant that he did lose some ground to the top three in the Championship.

It will have been tough to take for the youngster who will pick himself up and comeback stronger for his next race at Rockingham in three weeks’ time.
