Tommy Hill says he will be doing all he can to seal the 2011 MCE British Superbike Championship as he prepares for his second title showdown in as many seasons.
The Swan Yamaha rider from Beckenham comes into the final event at Brands Hatch with an eight point deficit to make up on series leader John Hopkins, but with three races remaining and 75 points still available, Hill feels he is well placed to overhaul the American.
Indeed, Hill has a good record at Brands Hatch, winning two of the five races held there this year, whereas Hopkins is yet to win around the Kent circuit.
Hill’s scenario comes a year after he went into the final round of the 2010 season with a slender margin over Ryuichi Kiyonari and Josh Brookes, only to finish it in third position after three Oulton Park races. Nonetheless, Hill is determined to make amends this year.
“Brands Hatch is it; the three most important races of the season and everyone is focused on the weekend. We all love the Grand Prix circuit and everyone in the Swan Yamaha team will be doing everything we can to come away as champions.
“We have moved forward since the round there in August when we won and this is the weekend where we need to step everything up again; this is the last chance and we really want this title. We can’t underestimate any of our rivals as everyone is going to be pushing hard.
“Last year was a different scenario and I will be coming out fighting as hard as I can to win again this weekend and hopefully that will be enough to be the 2011 champions.”
