The Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship gets underway this weekend and Kent’s Jake Hill is back on the grid for 2021 and is targeting more success.

After 2020 turned out to be his best season to date in the BTCC, Hill is determined to continue that success this season.

Speaking about the last campaign he said: “2020 was my best in BTCC to date, for sure it was a successful one and I am very happy with what we achieved. It was a second and five third place finishes which was a great hall.

“Doing what we did again with the independents was also great, lots of success but gutted at the same time because it could have been so much more without the engine issues we suffered at the beginning of the season.”

In terms of consistency Jake remains with MB Motorsport and continues the strong relationship that they have formed over the last season or two, as well as returning to Motorbase for the new campaign.

He added: “Remaining with MB Motorsport is both fantastic but as you say the second year around continuing with the team is the best bit, we get to continue what we started and make it ever better again.

“It’s great coming back to Motorbase, but also great that the merge has happened, I still get to keep my brilliant staff from AmD but also be united with the best in the championship and that only makes our team stronger.”

This season Hill will be racing in the Ford Focus ST making the move from the Honda Civic, although he doesn’t see much change.

“Running the focus makes no difference for me coming from the civic, both fantastic cars but the ford being newer will for sure give me the edge I need to mount a championship fight.  The Focus ST is a lovely bit of kit and can’t wait to compete with it this year.”

Finally we asked Jake if he had set himself any targets for the coming year, and whether he can be in the title hunt.

He said: “My aim is clear, bring the team as much success as possible, the championship is for sure my aim but one that will be incredibly difficult to get. Cannot wait to get stuck in to see if it’s possible.”
