Hill secures Thruxton pole

Tommy Hill will start on poll for the BSB race at Thruxton after topping the time sheets in drying conditions in qualifying.

The Swan Yamaha rider from Beckenham was nearly half a second better off that Ian Lowry (Padgetts Honda)in a session that had an extended Q1 session of 25 minutes due to rainy early conditions.

Some big names fell in Q2 including Michael Laverty (13th), Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne (15th) and Noriyuki Haga (16th).

Hill then produced the goods in Q3 to make up for his crash in Q1 at Brands Hatch last week.

“It is fantastic to be back on the pole position and there was a lot more pressure here on me this weekend after what happened at Brands Hatch,” he said.

“It was looking like it might have been a gamble but we just went for it and it was a big shock. The only thing for me was I forgot my ear plugs so my ears are ringing now and I will be hearing the Swan Yamaha for a bit tonight!”
