Jake Hill is delighted to be back racing in a series for a full season once more after joining the ever growing Avon Tyres British GT grid.
Hill has joined AMD Tuning.com for the 2015 season and will be racing with Graham Coomes in the GT4 category.
Speaking with Kent Sports News about the opportunity, Jake said: “I am overjoyed with it, I am very happy that Shaun Hollamby has given me the seat for the year.
“He is obviously not wanting to drive the Porsche for the rest of the year, so he thought he would give it to someone who really wanted to. I am absolutely over the moon and like you say it is absolutely great to be finally secure for the year with a racing seat.”
Shaun hasn’t taken a gamble on giving Jake this race seat, he knows Jake from previous race series but also knows that he has raced Porsches before.
He added: “Like you said I drove the new 991 Carrera cup car for a couple of rounds last year and it was amazing, I loved the Porsche. To be back in a really good Porsche and doing a full season in it is going to be great.”
The British GT series is something new to Jake but it is definitely a series that he sees himself in long term.
“I have always wanted to do sports cars eventually so starting to do British GT and endurance racing is for sure the way to go. Hopefully we will have a really good year this year and move forward in this direction.”
Unfortunately Jake’s career has been stop start over the last few seasons and it feels good to Jake knowing that he will be racing again week in week out.
He said: “It is the best news you know, doing British Touring cars for a couple of rounds and the Carrera cup was absolutely amazing.
“I will always be grateful to David Bartrum and Rob Austin for giving me those opportunities but at the end of the day of course I want to be racing every weekend and doing a full season. To have that opportunity now with Shaun and AMD is just brilliant news.”
The British GT series is extremely competitive and it is a sign of Jake’s confidence that he wants to be targeting wins and podiums from the off.
“From what I have seen of the car I know that Dan Cammish who drove it last year, got three poles with it I believe, so the car is good. I believe my partner Graham Coomes, hopefully together we will get on really well. I haven’t met him yet but he supposed to be very quick as well.
“I have seen his pace and I watched the Oulton Park races so hopefully together we will be a really great pairing and try and get some good wins under our belt.
“From the minute we step foot in Rockingham I am going to be doing the best job that I can and I know that Graham will as well, and I know Shaun will and the team. There is no reason why we can’t perform first race. We have just got to go for it and I know Shaun will provide a very good car for us both and we will do the best that we can.”
Jake’s first race will be at Rockingham over the weekend of the 2nd and 3rd May and it will be a two hour race.
