Hill back for Masters challenge

BRDC ‘Rising Star’ Jake Hill will once again race the Lotus Elan 26R that he took a stunning outright victory in at the Silverstone Classic in July.

This time he will be taking on the 2019 Masters Historic Racing series with regular driver and former Lotus Cup UK Open Class champion, Rob Fenn.

Prepared by historic racing specialists John Danby Racing, the Fenn-owned machine, previously owned by Brisky Racing’s Richard Wheeler, will run alongside the Fenn’s JDR prepared Ford Mustang in the hugely competitive pan-European Masters Historic series.

Outlining how the opportunity arose, Hill from Goudhurst in Kent said “I got a call from David (Fenn) a few days ago and he asked if I would be interested in racing with Rob and working with them and I jumped at the chance!”

“I can’t thank David enough for the opportunity, and for believing in me and what I can do. I’d love to develop a career in Historic racing alongside my BTCC campaign, so this is a superb opportunity’.”

Hill continued, “Winning at the Elan at the ‘Classic in July was one of the highlights of my career, so to have an opportunity to drive on so many legendary circuits in one of my favourite cars with fantastic people will be incredible”

“I can’t wait to start working with Rob on race weekends and in testing to get the maximum out of us as a pairing, and working on getting the car suited to the challenge of different circuits”

JDR Team Principal John Danby was delighted to see Hill part of the team.

‘Jake drove with Richard Wheeler in his modern cars that we prepared and impressed instantly with his pace and his attitude, he’s genuinely quick and very technically aware. He’s also great fun and very laid back – he works brilliantly with everyone in the team, and I’m confident that Rob and Jake will be a formidable combination. Jake’s experience will be invaluable, and Rob’s natural speed will only get better with Jake’s influence. Should be great fun!’

Hill and Fenn are due to head to Guadix early in 2019 for testing, after which details of their 2019 programme will be announced.

Meanwhile Hill will announce his 2019 BTCC campaign in the next week or so.
