BRDC ‘Superstar’ Jake Hill achieved a life time ambition by driving a 2001 Lola B2K/00 LMP2 Le Mans car at a soaking wet Donington Park, working with John Danby Racing (JDR) to develop Simon Watts car in preparation for the 2020 season.
Hill has previously driven several JDR prepared cars – including two wins at the Silverstone Classic in 2018 and 2019 – and has worked with Richard Wheeler, David and Rob Fenn and now Simon Watts in a number of events.
“I have been so lucky to have been given the chance to race some amazing cars over the last few years. Initially I raced with Richard (Wheeler) in CSCC events, then at the Silverstone Classic in his Lotus 26R which we won. That led to me racing with Rob (Fenn) last year, and we Won five of seven races including at the Silverstone Classic in the Mustang – and now I’m testing Simon (Watts) cars…it’s a dream come true for me!”
Hill is racing for MB Motorsport in the 2020 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship, scheduled to start at Donington in August, but is equally as invested in the Historic racing scene.
“I am in a fantastic position with MB Motorsport racing in BTCC this season. I won my first BTCC race last year – plus 5 races in Historics with Rob (Fenn)..so come into 2020 very confident of more success. I have been very honest that my aim is to Win the Independent BTCC Championship. But I absolutely love driving Historic cars – of all sorts – and I hope that I can do as much Historic racing as possible – I won in BTCC and Masters Historic last year – I hope I can continue to win in both series in 2020.’
Hill is due to start his BTCC programme at Donington Park 1/2 August
