Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler has threatened changes to his side if they don’t start winning soon.

He saw his side beaten by ten man Southend United at Roots Hall on Tuesday night in another lacklustre display that has seen them drop to 13th in League Two.

Just one point from their last four games has seen The Gills drop down the tabel after a great start to the season and Hessenthaler admits his side are not playing to their potential:

“I think it’s people not performing – simple as that. It’s got to change, and it’s got to change very quickly. We may have to juggle the pack.”

“If people aren’t going to start doing their jobs properly for 90 plus minutes, then we need to get players that are going to, because we need to start winning games again.

“Where is the Gillingham player going in there, busting his backside to get in there and score a goal? Why are we not doing that?”

Despite the recent poor run of form, Hessenthaler admitted to BBC Radio Kent that his side weren’t feeling the pressure:

“There’s not pressure after eight games because it’s a long season,” he said.

“There’s always pressure in football management. The players are putting pressure on themselves at the moment because we’re not winning games.

“We’ve got to win our next two games – it’s as simple as that, because we’re not winning games.

“We’ve got to go and win at Hereford and we’ve got to at home to Burton. If we do that we’ll be three points off our target – which won’t be the end of the world.”

The Gills will be missing a whole host of players for the Hereford game with Matt Lawrence (concussion) joining Adam Birchall and Jack Payne on the sidelines.

Curtis Weston missed the trip to Southend and remains a doubt to travel to the West Country with Matt Fish the latest to get injured.

The right back picked up a knock in the reserves 8-1 defeat to their Ipswich Town counterparts on Wednesday afternoon with Stefan Payne the scorer for the Gills.
