The Gills head to Hereford on Saturday looking to pick up their first win in five games.
Three defeats and a draw in their last four competitive outings has seen them drop to 13th in League Two and a win is a must if they are to harbour any realistic ambitions of being promoted come the end of the season.
The good news for boss Andy Hessenthaler is that he has that illusive striker he has been looking to bring in since pre-season with West Ham United’s Frank Nouble signing on the dotted line for a month.
He is certain to start alongside Danny Kedwell with a change in tactics likely to see the Gills start with the 4-4-2 formation many fans have been calling for in recent weeks.
The bad news for Hessenthaler is that he will be without some key personnel limiting his options regards selection.
Curtis Weston missed Tuesday night’s loss at Southend with a thigh injury and yet again he is expected to miss out with Danny Spiller rated as doubtful with an ankle injury.
They join Matt Lawrence and Matt Fish on the sidelines with the pair suffering concussion picked up during the week.
With Lawrence dropping out of the side, skipper Andy Frampton is expected to return alongside Garry Richards in the heart of the defence.
Adam Birchall and Jack Payne are both suffering from medial knee ligament injuries, leaving Hessenthaler’s squad pretty threadbare and he will have to make best use of what he has got if he wants to pick up three points.
Therefore, his side might look like this:
Flitney, Fuller, Richards, Frampton, Martin, Whelpdale, Lee, Jackman, Rooney, Kedwell, Nouble.
Subs: Gazzaniga, Essam, Montrose, Oli, S Payne.
