Heathcote heads to Donington
Heathcote heads to Donington

Despite leading Millers Oils Ginetta GT4 SuperCup ‘Am’ class, Nathan Heathcote is going into this weekend’s second round at Donington Park somewhat on the back foot, having never even visited the iconic circuit.

Having spent much of his racing career on the mixed terrain of the rallycross scene, twenty-two year old Heathcote has the disadvantage of not having raced at most of the BTCC scheduled tracks.
The 2017 British Rallycross champion impressed Ginetta series regulars with his pace at round one at Brands Hatch by winning the ‘Am’ class whilst getting amongst the ‘Pro’ drivers. He had however had a test and a club race in a MX5 to get up to speed before taking to the short ‘Indy’ circuit.
The legendary Donington Park may be a trickier prospect with its fast sweeping lines through corners such as Craner Curves, a rollercoaster of a downhill switchback, which has caught our innumerable racers over the years.
Nathan will take to the Leicestershire circuit for the first time in his 355bhp Ginetta G55 GT4 on Thursday for the series official test before racing in front of what is anticipated to be a large trackside crowd and TV audience on Saturday and Sunday.
Since the last round Nathan has divided his time between working at his family’s farm and enjoying the Easter break but is now raring to go and get back out in his Century Motorsport machine, to continue his tarmac race progression.
Nathan said, “It’s nice to have a good points lead but this could be a big ask, I’ve never even been to Donington and it doesn’t look like a track you pick up in 10 minutes! I really enjoyed Brands Hatch and I like the way the team operate, so I feel together we’ll be able to build some speed at the test. I’m hoping to be competitive as the weekend moves on and try to get on the podium again for sure. It’s been a fun Easter break but now it’s time to get serious on track again!”
