Heathcote delighted with GT4 Am title

Nathan Heathcote couldn’t have asked for a better debut in the Millers Oils Ginetta GT4 Supercup when he joined the grid in March.

Heathcote who switched from Rallycross to circuit racing and took the Am Championship as the season ended in October.

Speaking to Kent Sports News after winning his title, he said: “Such a great feeling when I finished race three to take the Am championship. It didn’t come easy but I guess that makes the win even better.”

Heathcote had to adapt his driving style as he made the move across to the circuits and it isn’t something that is easy.

He added: “Rallycross and circuit racing are two very different things. I managed to pick up all the techniques of circuit racing quite fast but every time I went out on track I was still learning something new.

At the end of the season Heathcote finished with eight victories, two seconds and three thirds in class in his debut season, which ultimately took him to the title, although that wasn’t his main aim.

He said: “It was great to be up on the podium a lot but the main thing for me was keeping my eyes on the championship and being consistent every race.”

In true racing style the battle for the Am Championship went down to the wire and Nathan enjoyed the battle.

“The last three rounds of the championship have been so tense. Colin (White) and I have had some great battles all season but he really managed to close me in towards the end.

I am just glad I kept it cool to take the win.”

We asked Nathan what his highlights and his lowest moments were in his debut season and whether he will be back on the GT4 grid next season.

He said: “The biggest highlight for me was battling for third place overall at Thruxton. The lowest part for the season was the massive crash at Donnington which I had no way of avoiding.

“At the minute we will step back after this win and look at all the options going forward.”
