Kent based rallycross driver Nathan Heathcote travelled north to Croft Circuit for the final round of the Toyo MSA British Rallycross Championship looking to seal the championship in his maiden year racing in the top flight of British Rallycross.
The WaterDirect backed young driver started the round just 10 points adrift of the top spot. Nothing other than a win would be enough to clinch the coveted championship title. In an ever strengthening display of driving prowess he recorded a forth, second and fastest time in the three qualifying sessions. In fact in Qualifying three he was a whole 9 seconds faster than the rest of the field. In Rallycross terms he may well have been in a race on his own!
He lined up in pole position for the first semi-final and despite the worsening weather conditions comfortably won ahead of his two closest rivals to claim the last pole position of the 2017 campaign. The final itself was run the following day ahead of the Rallycross Grand Prix.
Heathcote made the perfect start and was ahead of the pack into the first corner where he would stay in yet another emphatic lights to flag win by over 9 seconds! And along with it securing the 2017 Championship. He didn’t have long to rest on his laurels however as the Grand Prix action soon got underway. Not content with his championship victory he went on to claim victory in the Grand Prix thrilling the crowds at Croft who packed the banks around the circuit.
Speaking after the weekend a delighted, Heathcote said: “I’m totally overwhelmed! I still can’t believe it the car felt perfect all weekend and my confidence just got better and better as the weekend progressed. To come away with the GP win as well is just the icing on the cake.
