A fine second half comeback from Bromley maintained their unbeaten away record and a welcome three points for the ravens in their attempt to get promotion from the Conference South.
Having exited the cup the previous Saturday and lost at home in midweek to Hemel Hempstead Town. It was imperative that Bromley did not carry the cup hangover into this game and in the opening twenty minutes Bromley to all intent and purposes looked very comfortable.
Indeed the only opportunity fashioned of any note, in that period, came courtesy of a mazy run from Rhys Murrell-Williamson and a powerful drive to finish that drew a fine save from Seb Brown in the Bromley goal. In the fifteenth minute the home side were forced into an early change as a collision between Moses Ademola and Calum Kitscha left the Hayes and Yeading custodian with concussion. Subsequently Kitscha was replaced by Grant Smith in the Hayes and Yeading goal.
It was Hayes and Yeading who were to score the first goal of the game after the break in play. Ugo Udoji man-handled Dean Inman to the ground when defending a corner and the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. Pat Cox made no mistake with the penalty by sending Brown the wrong way.
The goal served to wake Bromley up and they nearly levelled within seconds of the goal. Excellent link up play between Jordan Robertson and Moses Ademola led to Robertson crossing for an on rushing Louis Dennis only for the latter to side foot wide with the goal gaping.
As ever Moses Ademola was to prove to be at the heart of all things good for Bromley, in the last five minutes before half time good work from Ademola on the edge of the box led to a chance for Danny Waldren but Waldren’s effort flew inches over the bar. Then in first half injury time Ademola took down a Udoji cross brilliantly to work himself a yard of space in the box, however as he prepared to hit the trigger the excellent Dean Inman blocked the goalbound effort.
No doubt stinging from a half time rebuke, Bromley were sent out early for the start of the second half and set about righting the wrongs of the first half immediately.
Indeed within six minutes of the restart Bromley were level, once again good link up play between Robertson and Pierre Joseph-Dubois allowed Dubois to break free of the Hayes and Yeading defence and square for Ademola to level the scores. Within minutes Bromley had taken the lead when good work between Dennis, Ademola and Prestedge led to the formercrossing for Dubois who was left with a side foot finish inside the 6 yard box to give Bromley the lead.
With Bromley now in front, they proceeded to stamp their authority on the game, dominating possession and looking to stretch the lead further. First Ademola just failed to provide a finishing touch to a Dennis knock on inside the area, before Robertson played in Ademola only for Smith to make a smart save and deny the in-form striker.
Hayes and Yeading briefly rallied inside the last twenty minutes with Tom Collins quite often at the heart of any opportunities they fashioned, but the best chance they could muster was a Collins drive from 20 yards that Brown was able to deal with comfortably.
As the game entered the last five minutes Bromley had two glorious opportunities to put the game to bed. A Danny Waldren cross-field ball was killed with one touch by the on rushing Louis Dennis, who jinked past his defender only to see his effort, once again blocked by a last ditch challenge, by Inman. Then in injury time, Udoji and Dubois linked up on the right side only for Robertson to head wide when well set courtesy of a Dubois cross.
As it was Bromley did not need the buffer of a third goal and comfortably saw out the last few minutes to seal the win and cement themselves inside the top three of the Vanarama Conference South.
