Bromley got their Skrill South season off to a perfect start with well executed away performance at Hayes & Yeading’s temporary rented home at Woking FC where the travelling support outnumbered the home fans.
The home side under the new management of former Liverpool and Ireland defender Phill Babb started well with Merrifield and Reid going close early on.
Reid went even closer soon after, but Lewis Carey making his debut in the Bromley goal saved well. The Ravens came into the game as the half went on and they made the most of their firs real chance on 31 minutes when Bradley Goldberg battled through two defenders and set up Brendan Kiernan who finished smartly from the edge of the box.
Just before the break Reid hit the bar for the home side, but Bromley held out to lead at the half.
The second half was an open end to end affair Bromley went close when Joe Anderson’s cross narrowly evaded Jay May’s head, while Reid once again fired just over for Hayes.
The most bizarre incident of the game came soon after when May sent a 50 yards back pass just over his own bar with Carey stranded.
The Ravens had a strong spell just after the hour mark when Goldberg shot over and then was denied by Ruiz in the home goal. Reid fired over again at the other end before Kiernan set up Pierre Joseph-Dubois who was also foiled by Ruiz.
The same combination again and this time Dubois went one better against his former side with a sublime curling effort from just inside the box to make it 2-0 on 83 minutes and secure the three points for Bromley.
