Joe Perry was crowned the 2013 Pink Ribbon Champion, after a high quality 4-3 win over Dittons’ Barry Hawkins in the final.
After five days of play, featuring 328 players, Joe Perry lifted the magnificent Pink Ribbon Trophy at South West snooker Academy.
Perry’s victory over his On Q Promotions stable mate Barry Hawkins was particularly poignant for their manager Paul Mount.
The Pink Ribbon Charity event has been staged since 2010 to raise funds and awareness for Breast Cancer Charities.
Paul Mount set up the event in memory of his sister Kay Suzanne who died from the disease.
This year a cheque for £8,826.26 was handed to Peter Johnstone, representing Breast Cancer Campaign.
“I’m thrilled”, said Mount. “We’ve never even had one of our players in the final before, so to have two of them and the winner is very special.
“I couldn’t manage a nicer bunch of lads. Barry and Joe have really done us proud this weekend.”
Hawkins was first out of the blocks in the final, running in breaks of 70 and 109 to take a 3-1 lead.
Perry bounced back with 98 and 87 to close the gap and he dominated the deciding frame from start to finish.
Perry booked his place in the final after a nail-biting 4-3 win over Dominic Dale, winning on the final pink.
Hawkins beat Australia’s Vinnie Calabrese 4-2 in their semi final, with breaks of 76 and 127.
Ealier Hawkins beat On Q stable mate Andrew Norman in the Last 32, with best runs of 83 and 75, and then another On Q player, Sam Baird in the Last 16.
He smashed in breaks of 90, 65 and 52 to overcome Daniel Wells in the quarter finals.
Perry’s run to the final was imperious.
The Chatteris man rattled up breaks of 67 and 60 against James Cahill in the Last 32 and followed that with a 4-0 win over Mark King.
In the quarter final Perry blistered past Gary Wilson with 55, 123, 129 and 88.
Reanne Evans successfully negotiated the qualifying rounds before bowing out to On Q’s Michael White 4-1 in the Last 64.
