Harrow Borough v Folkestone Invicta preview

Neil Cugley says he’ll have no hesitation putting Joe Taylor into the Invicta starting line-up for Saturday’s game against Harrow Borough at Earlsmead if Ade Yusuff fails to shrug off a hamstring injury he picked up in midweek.

Folkestone’s 24-goal top scorer Yusuff was withdrawn 11 minutes from time during Tuesday’s 3-0 home win over Kingstonian with Taylor, who replaced him, grabbing two goals to make sure of victory.

“Ade’s pace and energy can unsettle defenders, and I’d be reluctant to leave him out if he’s okay, but if we have to, Joe’s clearly got the appetite for goals again which is great to see.

“He’s accepted being on the bench recently in a very professional manner. We’ve had enquiries about him as he’s not been in the team, but we want him here and he wants to stay. He’s not really been involved with a team this close to the play-offs before and want be part of it.

Good news too is that midfielder Micheal Everitt is now over his hamstring problem and will definitely be in the squad for the trip to Harrow.

“Ronnie Dolan has done well in the last five games, and it just his character after having a nightmare when we lost at Worthing, though you could say that about most of our players that day.

“But it’ll be good to have Mev back in the squad and there’s nothing like having genuine competition for places.”

Supersub Taylor’s double strike against Kingstonian took  Folkestone onto 80 goals and two ahead of of much-vaunted but seriously – maybe fatally – out of form title favourites Billericay Town as leading scorers in the Bostik Premier Division.

(It should be said that Billericay have more games in hand than most of us have recently had hot dinners, but for the moment, Invicta can enjoy where they are at!)

Saturday’s host do though have one of the better goalkeepers in this division – along with our own Tim Roberts, of course!

Ex-Brentford U21, Farnborough and Hendon number one Melvin Minter, who is  the latest recipient of the divisional ‘Safe Hands’ award, also had an excellent game when Harrow Borough beat Folkestone at the Fullicks Stadium in December.

At the sharp end, goalscoring midfielder Kurtis Cumberbatch, is a former Spurs youth player while old foe Ryan Moss has far too often found the net against Folkestone in the past for the likes of Margate and Kingstonian, scoring in both games against for the Ks last season.

He was also Harrow’s matchwinner last weekend with the only goal of the game in their 1-0 victory against Worthing.

Borough’s form in the last six league games is marginally better than Folkestone’s – with 12 points from wins over Needham Market (3-2), Burgess Hill (3-2) and Thurrock (3-2) before the afore-mentioned game against Worthing.

Expectations are so high at Invicta right now, but before we start getting carried away, there was a word of warning from manager Cugley that Earlsmead is hardly Folkestone’s happiest hunting ground.

“I can’t remember us winning there – certainly not often, but we owe them one after they beat us at our place this season.

“They’ve got a system that works for them, and it’ll be up to us to be aware of that.”

The pacy Sahr Kaba, Charles Banya and Michael Bryan got the goals in the first encounter three months ago with Ade Yussuf on target for the home side.

For those travelling by car, the address of the ground is The Rogers Family Stadiu, Carlyon Avenue, Harrow, Middlesex HA2 8SS.

Saturday’s match is the first of two successive away fixtures for Invicta who also have to travel just through the Dartofrd Tunnel to Thurrock’s Ship Lane the following weekend.

Those games come other side of next Wednesday’s Kent Reliance Senior Cup semi-final against Charlton Athletic at the Fullicks Stadium when reduced admission prices will be in operation, as previously announced – it’s just £5 for adults, £3 concessions and only £1 for under 18s.
