Gillingham manager Neil Harris has distanced himself from the speculation about a possible takeover and suggests he’s as much in the dark about it as fans are.
Speculation that The Gills are close to a deal that will see the club sold to an American businessman have been gaining traction in recent weeks.
There’s no secret that current owner and Co-Chairman Paul Scally has been looking for a way out of the club, but Harris admitted in his weekly press conference that he’s not sure what’s going on:
“Obviously I can’t say too much and I’m a little bit in the dark myself. For me, nothing changes and I will just focus on the pitch, focus on preparing the team and making sure what I can control right.”
“What happens off the picth is down to the Board and it’s one step at a time.”
“I’ve seen the rumours myself and it doesn’t make any difference to me.”
“I’m just completely focused on Doncaster away at the weekend and making sure we’re more consistent over ninety minutes.”
Some fans would suggest Harris’ language points to the fact he knows there are ongoing talks in the background and the club could be on the brink of a takeover.
With a new owner going to want to see the side promoted back to League One and possibly the Championship in the coming seasons, Harris and co know the side need to start winning and fast if they are to have a future at the club.
