Hampton & Richmond v Welling Utd preview

Two defeats in three days has left Welling United in the thick of a relegation battle.

FOOTBALL (WELLING AWAY)

As has been the case on so many occasions this season, draws were turned into defeats by goals in the last ten minutes in both those games, and points have been lost in the last three matches due to their failings at the end of matches.

It is still less than halfway through the season but the Welling management team know that they have to turn things round soon or they will be in serious trouble..

Their mounting injury list hasn’t helped matters although they are hopeful that some of the walking wounded will be back in contention for Saturday’s game at Hampton and Richmond Borough.

Captain Sean Francis has been going through a period of intensive physiotherapy whilst both Harry Crawford and Dan Walker were expected to return to training this week.

Although it’s their first season back in the Vanarama National South after four years in the Ryman Premier, Hampton have made a fine start to the season and are currently in fifth place, just three points behind second placed St. Albans City.

Six wins and two draws have been pivotal in their fine start as their home form has been less spectacular. They have lost their last four home games, the most recent being a one-nil defeat to Oxford City.

Before that, Maidenhead United (3-2), Poole Town (2-0) and Whitehawk (2-0) all left the Beveree with maximum points.
