Thanks to a penalty apiece, the honours were shared when Hampton and Richmond Borough and Welling United met at The Beveree.
It extended Welling’s unbeaten league run to six matches, and they remain in sixth place in the Vanarama National League South, but they will feel that it was two points dropped.
Amadou Kassarate had the first goal attempt of the match, but his effort lacked the power to concern Hampton goalkeeper Joe Walsh.
Then Ruaridh Donaldson’s foul on Ade Azeez earned him a yellow card and presented the Wings with another opportunity. Devonte Aransibia took the responsibility, and his free kick went just past the post with Walsh well beaten.
Tommy Block had a shot blocked by Welling’s Chi Ezennolim and then a cross tipped over by Myles Roberts however, the visitors came close again shortly after. Azeez got clear of his man and tried a first-time effort, but Walsh rushed out and made an excellent reaction save.
Midway through the first half, Azeez was brought down in the penalty area by Donaldson as he was preparing to shoot. Although the defender escaped a second yellow card, a penalty was awarded, and Taylor Maloney made no mistake from the spot.
Block cut in from the right for Hampton but shot well over before a shot from Aransibia deflected off a team-mate and went inches wide.
Jake Gray thought he had levelled when he hit a fierce drive, but Roberts got a fingertip on it to divert it onto the underside of the bar and out then Welling had the last attempt of the half, but Azeez was well off target.
Three minutes into the second half, the hosts equalised. Aaron Barnes fouled Liam Vincent in the penalty area and Block fired home from the spot.
Vincent was just wide with a clever volley before he took a free kick that was well claimed by Roberts. Tommy Wood headed wide from a cross by Block then a slick passing move created an opening for Gray, but he slotted just wide.
Another chance came and went for Hampton when Vincent fired over before Welling finally created an opportunity Azeez held it up well and laid it back to Stefan Payne, but he was unable to keep his shot down.
After that, and with the Beavers tiring, Welling controlled the final stages however they didn’t find the winner. Substitute Taofiq Olomowewe headed wide from a Maloney free kick and another Maloney delivery found Manny Parry, but his header was also off target.
In the final minute, frustration got the better of Welling manager Warren Feeney and he was shown a red card.
With no Tuesday evening game, Welling have a week to prepare for next Saturday’s game at home to St Albans City when they will look to get back to winning ways.
