Manager of Hollands & Blair, Simon Halsey has spoken of his delight at managing to persuade striker Danny Kedwell to join the club.
Former Gillingham crowd favourite Danny Kedwell has returned to the Medway Towns following his departure from National League South side Havant and Waterlooville.
But before Gills fans get excited, 37-year-old Kedwell‘s base won’t be Priestfield, but it will be Star Meadow – the home of SCEFL side Hollands and Blair.
Boss Simon Halsey was naturally delighted to have brought the former Gills favourite back to the Medway Towns when he admitted to KSN, “It’s an amazing coup for the club. We had the connection with him being a local lad and he saw some of our games at Star Meadow last season, and now that Danny’s finished at Havant, the question was asked of him by our co-chairman Paul Piggott. And it just moved from there really.”
“There were meetings and phone calls and we finally got it done and dusted at training on Thursday night. It’s a massive, massive thing for the club to have someone of his stature coming to play here!”
Kedwell wasn’t the only signing that Halsey completed this week as Joe Kane also signed to play for the Gillingham club. “Take Kes out of the whole situation. Joe is another massive signing – someone who I started to talk to whilst I was on holiday in France and he really is another great signing for the club.”
“I looked at the squad at training this week and we’ve got a good squad there. We had a good season last year and so with the additions that we’ve made, it’ll hopefully make us even stronger and perhaps we’ll be able to see out the games that we couldn’t and it means that we’ll have a lot more strength in depth now.”
“There are really some great players in SCEFL this season. You’ve got the likes of Freeman; Bradshaw – who’s gone form Sheppey to Chatham; Denness; Pugh; Hayes dropping down from Dartford; Evans; it’s never ending… SCEFL is certainly inviting some very talented players at the moment.”
