Chairman Kevin Hake insists he will have a new manager in place of Chatham Town Women soon after a poor start to the season.
Managerless Chatham Town Women are still in search of their first League win of the season following a six one home defeat to a strong Ipswich Town Women side fancied by many to challenge for honours this season.
Four down at the break on Sunday, the home side desperately needed to take something out of the game and but for a last kick thunderbolt would have “drawn” the second half after Breon Grant scored late on.
But despite the scoreline, caretaker boss and Club Chairman (as well as men’s first team boss) Kevin Hake did have some good news for the Chats as he told KSN after the game that he hoped to appoint a new manager for the side “hopefully this week!”
Reflecting on a much-improved performance for his side in the second half, he told us, “We were good second half as first half I did not think we were in the game at all!”
“There were a few words said at the break and the girls put in a better second half performance – unlucky to have conceded that one right at the end.”
“It has been difficult for the girls as they have had a lot of injuries and with me just as interim manager it is difficult to get the message across at times and your philosophies.”
“But the girls have been fantastic in the four games that I have been involved with – their attitude has been brilliant, and we have got some results and pulled ourselves back in it to be within touching distance of the teams outside the relegation zone.”
Ex club captain Vicky Ashton-Jones has been helping Hake in the past couple of weeks and he told us, “It has been brilliant – she is fantastic! She is an ambassador of the Club and was there when we needed her to step in.”
“Her knowledge of the game is fantastic, and it is unfortunate because of work commitments she cannot be here all the time. But her commitment to the Club and her love of the Club is great and it’s very much needed and appreciated at times like this.”
“With regard to appointing a new boss, we will be appointing someone next week. The one thing that we wanted to instil and it’s why I got involved is because we will do whatever it takes to keep the Club in the position that it is in.”
“They have done so fantastically well to get to this level. This is what we are at Chatham Town – we are one big family, and everyone steps in to help each other out when we are in need.”
“So, a big thanks to Luke Carpenter who has come in to help – we are nearly at the point of appointing a new manager and he will get the backing that he needs to get us out of the mess that we are currently in.”
