It’s being reported that the Addicks have accepted a bid from Burnley for Johann Berg Gudmundsson.
The fee is quoted as £2,500,000 with a possible further £1,000,000 coming Charlton’s way in add ons.
The 25-year-old Icelandic star penned a four-year deal last summer, but is believed to have an escape clause in the contract.
The fee will disappoint many, but it is rare for mega fees to be paid to sides relegated to League One.
Gudmundsson arrived at The Valley from AZ Alkmaar, and has made a huge impression in his two years at the club.
He has made 78 starts in all competitions for the Addicks, plus a further 8 appearances from the bench, scoring 17 goals.
Gudmundsson topped the Championship assists table last season, and his departure will leave a creative void that Russell Slade will need to fill.
He started in all of Iceland’s five games in this summer’s European Championship in France, and played well.
Norwich have also expressed an interest but Gudmundsson has always hankered after a move to the Premier League, so Burnley are in pole position.
The deal could be concluded fairly quickly.
