Last season’s joint top scorer, Johann Berg Gudmundsson has penned a new four-year contract with Charlton.
The club made the announcement on Wednesday morning.
The 24-year-old Icelandic winger was a sensation in his debut season at The Valley. A scorer of spectacular goals, his effort against Cardiff at The Valley on Boxing Day, was voted goal of the season by the fans.
Gudmundsson was also runner-up to Jordan Cousins in the Player Of The Year poll. He had this to say to the club’s website after completing the deal:
“It feels really good, we’ve been talking about it for a few months. Now it’s done I can concentrate on my football and help the team to a good start in the Championship.
“We want to build a squad for the future and I’m a part of that.
“Now we know that the football club is serious about what we want to do.”
Guy Luzon was naturally delighted that one of his stars had agreed to extend his stay at the club and said this:
“Everyone knows Johann is a player with a lot of quality who brings a lot to our team.
“He had just one year left on his contract so I’m very happy that he has committed to us for his long-term future.
“It shows that he believes in what we want to achieve here. Now we can look forward to continuing to enjoy his ability at The Valley,” commented Luzon.
Gudmundsson should feature in Wednesday’s game at Dagenham.
