On Saturday, Welling United are off on their travels again.
This will not have a novelty value for the Welling management and squad, or travelling supporters, as it’s their seventh consecutive weekend on the road.
Having knocked Forest Green Rovers off the top of the league on Tuesday night, they have an equally tough game coming up when visiting fifth placed Grimsby Town.
Five of Grimsby’s ten home games have ended in victories, but three draws and two defeats suggest that Welling can enjoy some success at Blundell Park.
Last season, the Mariners recorded a double over Welling winning 2-0 at home in September, and by the same scoreline at Park View Road in March.
However, Loui Fazakerley’s young side will be travelling with a positive attitude having come so close to beating Forest Green on Tuesday.
Although disappointed to concede a late equaliser, first team coach Paul Barnes accepted it was still a good point to take from the promotion hopefuls.
“It’s all about confidence and building up momentum. Picking up points improves that confidence. It leads us into a tricky away game on Saturday but the lads will be more than confident. There’s nothing to fear.”
Sam Corne returns from suspension and although Kieron St. Aimie might not quite be ready for his first appearance of the season, the management team have many options. There is now real competition for every position in the Welling team.
