Two Bostik League South Division Promotion challengers, Greenwich Borough and Sittingbourne, meet on Saturday at the DGS Stadium in Eltham.
There are just nine points between the clubs from second to ninth place in the division with the two clubs involved here right in the midst of it all.
Hosts Greenwich Borough have been pulled back by a spate of draws. They haven’t won in six league games but have drawn five of them with the only defeat a 2-0 reverse at home to Horsham.
In their most recent draw they twice came from behind to claim a point at Faversham. Luke Griffiths opened the scoring in the ninth minute but Chinedu McKenzie levelled just shy of the half hour mark.
Matthew Bourne put Faversham ahead on 62 minutes but a Jack Samoutis goal eight minutes from time ensured that Borough claimed a point. Captain Mark Phillips was dismissed in injury time.
Signing Mackenzie at the start of the month, following his release by Maidenhead United, was a real coup. He scored 21 goals for Romford last season and has already scored three in three league and cup games for Borough.
Meanwhile, Sittingbourne’s game with Guernsey last Saturday was postponed but they had a midweek game at Cray Wanderers on the 3g pitch at Bromley and looked good for three points until conceding three in the last twelve minutes
Kane Rowland put them ahead after 32 minutes and Miles Cornwell doubled their lead on the hour. However, after John Coker was dismissed, Jay Leader reduced the arrears and Michael Freiter and Freddie Parker both netted in injury time.
Their away form is good having won seven, drawn three and lost just three Nick Davis’ team are aware of how important it is to pick up points against the teams around them and will be keen to rebound after Wednesday’s disappointment.
They also made a signing at the start of the month when they picked up former Charlton Athletic youngster Ben Davisson from Ashford United. His former clubs include Hastings United, Maidstone United, Tonbridge Angels and Welling United.
Last season’s corresponding fixture was decided in the first twenty three minutes when the Brickies burst into a three nil lead courtesy of goals by Dan Tanner, John Wisson and Tom Carlse. Although Mo Elsa pulled one back it was no more than a consolation.
