A late comer to racing driving Gray has benefited from the help, support and guidance of Team Parker racing throughout the season.

Looking back at the last campaign he said: “It’s been the most competitive and hardest season since I started racing, but I’ve still really enjoyed it, whatever position I’ve finished.

“From starting in Academy, through Roadsport, Tracksport and now Supersport, the racing is always close. Wherever you start on the grid, and whichever series you race in. That’s the great thing about Caterham racing.”

Roy Gray new colourscheme 2Roy finished middle of the pack this season and he admits he would have like to have finished higher, but that is now his goal for next season.

He added: “I would have liked to have finished higher than 22nd this season. There were 43 entries in this year’s Supersport group, although not everyone raced every weekend. I’m hoping to improve on that next season, even if only a few positions.

“This year was my second season with race support from Andy Parker and all at Team Parker Racing. Each driver has his own regular mechanic/engineer for each weekend. A big thanks goes to my mechanic Scott, who’s looked after me since I joined TPR.

“They are a great team to race with, efficient, professional, and fun! This makes every race weekend enjoyable in all ways, on and off track. Having team support is a great benefit. Knowing that the car is looked after and set-up for each track and conditions allows you to concentrate on the race ahead.

“Another major help is the excellent tuition from the Professional Driver Coaches available for testing and race weekends.”

With the season based on best results it means that drivers have to be consistent from the first race of the campaign to the last.

“Whatever position you are in the championship, you do need to be consistent. Over the seven race weekends, if you have a DNF, or a low scoring race, you can soon drop positions overall.

“I did get some good points for both races in the Season Finale. I had my best qualifying position this year in a wet session. Starting 15th out of 30 on the grid for Race one, I worked my way up to eighth and was keeping pace with the lead pack. Unfortunately, I was run off track during the race and lost places, but finished 12th.

“It is better having good results when the conditions are not ideal. I had good pace for Race one while the track was still wet. Although for race two the next day the track started to dry, leaving a few ‘greasy’ sections of track. Not my ideal conditions.”Roy Gray new colourscheme 3

With the season complete we asked whether there was a race that stood out as a favourite for Roy.

He said: “I think the race that probably stands out the most for me was race two at Anglesey. It was the second round this season. Finishing only 23rd for race one meant I was starting race two near the back of the grid. Heavy rain from start to finish made it difficult to see through the spray, especially in the early laps. I had a good start, overtook and out-braked other cars and was up to 15th by lap two. Great fun!”

What is next for Roy over the winter period and for next season, he reveals all in his final question of 2013.

He added: “As the family are always with me for the racing, they get a break as well as I do now that the season is over! It’s hard being away from the track too long, so there will be some winter testing between now and next season. Hopefully without frost and snow!

“I do plan to be racing in Supersport again next year. It will be the first time I’ve stayed in the same class for more than one season. This will be an advantage as previously, the car has been upgraded and modified each time I’ve moved up to the next class. It was like driving a new car each season, so takes time to adapt to the improved handling, speed, etc. As each season ends, you’re always looking forward to the next, so can’t wait until 2014”
