Victory at Wealdstone last Saturday was enough to ease Welling United out of the bottom three.
On Saturday they are on their travels again with a visit to Gosport Borough.
It will be the first meeting between the two clubs for thirty years, their last being in the Southern League in a season that ended with Welling crowned as champions.
This season, Welling are in need of the points to give them a little breathing space as they look to move away from the relegation zone.
Four wins, one draw and three defeats represents mixed fortunes at their Ariel Direct Stadium in Privett Park. Their last two home results have been particularly humbling crashing six-nil against Chelmsford and three-one versus Wealdstone.
No doubt they will be keen to put on a show for their home supporters this weekend and they boosted their confidence last week with victory at Hemel Hempstead Town.
Mark Goldberg’s decision to boost the Welling United management team by bringing back Jamie Day as Head Coach coincided with their success at Wealdstone. Midfielder Danny Waldren confirmed that the players see it as a positive appointment.
“To be fair, there’s always been a great mood from the start of the season until now. Even with players coming in and management being changed around and things, there’s always been a fantastic spirit in that dressing room.
“It gets frustrating at times because you think because we’ve got such a great spirit, how’s it not going our way? I think Jamie coming in has made a big difference. The guy obviously knows what he’s doing. He sat us down, he’s talked to us. Training’s been improved. Lot faster, higher tempo.
“We’ll just take every game as it comes and just keep pushing, keep trying to grind out results. After five or six games we’ll look at the table and see where we’re at. Then we’ll start pushing again, another five or six games.”
Goldberg still has concerns with injuries. Although he was pleased to have Pierre Joseph-Dubois back against Wealdstone, it was partly offset by club captain Sean Francis being unable to play in the second half. “He had to come off at half time. He’s got big bruising on his foot. His ankle has swollen up to the extent that he couldn’t put his boot back on.
“I’m worrying that Dan Walker’s had a bit of a set back. Harry Crawford’s had a bit of a set back.” He is hopeful that Dean Morgan could be available again.
He now wants to build on the last result with back to back away wins. “Let’s go away with the same attitude and the same discipline.”
