Bromley’s championship winning season came to an end with only their second league defeat away from home this campaign as an impressive Gosport showed more composure in front of goal, completing the double over The Ravens, in a game played in celebratory atmosphere.
A much changed Bromley took a while to settle into their new shape, but Moses Ademola was a constant threat going forward and early on he set up Pierre Joseph-Dubois who had a shot initially parried by Nathan Ashmore with the rebound hitting Dubois in the face and rolling towards goal only for Gosport’s Player of the Season to recover the ball before it reached the line.
The game was played at a relaxed pace with the occasional burst of action, Adam Wilde went close with a free kick for Borough, while Ademola set up Louis Dennis who saw hot effort blocked by a defender and then Brad Goldberg who fired wide.
The home side took the lead on 29minutes when a low cross from the right was brilliantly volleyed home by Matt Paterson from 20 yards out.
Paterson nearly made it two when firing over soon after before Ademola saw hot goal bound shot cleared by Brett Poate and Danny Waldren volleyed over from the resulting corner.
The second half saw Gosport start the better with Mark Goldberg switching to three at the back and taking a while to settle, but just as The Ravens seemed to be on the offensive Borough made it 2-0 when Tom Dunford and Paterson combined to set up Wilde who beat Alan Julian with a great finish just after the hour.
Justin Bennett was denied by Julian before Bromley finally created a spell of pressure which tested the home defence.
Jack Holland set up Goldberg who fired over, Ademola and Goldberg set up Dennis who blazed over and Jamie Slabber saw a header cleared at the back post and Anthony Cook was just off target too.
A series of corners from the visitors were well dealt with by the Gosport defence and Goldberg hit a 20 yarder just wide off the post before The Ravens finally grabbed a goal in injury time.
Sub Cook hitting a fiercely driven free kick through the wall and low into the bottom corner of the net to end the game in style.
