Good weekend for Jamun
Good weekend for Jamun

Rochester based Jamun Racing had a solid weekend in the Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain with podiums in all three races from Knockhill.Nico Maranzana and Dan Cammish

Nico Maranzana was the star of the show for the Kent team, although South African Jayde Kruger had another strong showing on a track he has never driven on before. Not to be left out teammate Juan Rosso was right up there with them both.

Whilst Dan Cammish made it a perfect 21 wins from 21 races so far this season, he was made to fight for those victories all the way and could easily have been in second place behind Nico in race two of the weekend that is for sure.

Having started on pole position by virtue of having the fastest lap in race one, he led for a large part of the race before Cammish made his move and took the victory.

Jayde Kruger had a spin in race one that meant he dropped from third to sixth in another strong showing for the Championship newcomer. Maranzana was once again impressive in the first race of the day, underlining his talent in his rookie season.

Juan Rosso was right there at the front and was battling hard to finish higher than sixth, and he did well to avoid his spinning teammate and eventually finished ahead of him by one place, he was so close to taking P4 as well.

Speaking after race one Maranzana said: “It was my first time with the safety car and it was then that he won the race. He played a little trick on me and made a perfect restart. Now I have that trick in my mind. Dan has a lot of experience and I can learn from him.”Podium after race two

Nico made a textbook start in race two leading from pole position but the youngster just couldn’t convert the chance to knock Cammish off the top. He led for 14 of the 25 laps before Cammish made his move, although he was left wondering if he would be able to get past.

Kruger was once again there or there about and finished in fifth place, drive of the race came from Juan Rosso, who started on the last row after stalling on the parade lap to secure sixth place.

Giving his thoughts on race two Nico, said: “It’s good to lead but when you know that it’s Dan behind you, you need to push all the time.

“I lost the race because I was pushing too much, and I went off. Dan with all his experience got past me. But there is another race to come and I will try again to beat him.”

The final race of the weekend was just as entertaining for everyone watching, as Maranzana secured his third, second place finish of the weekend. Jayde Kruger had his best result of the weekend, as he secured his place on the podium in third place.

Juan Rosso also saved his best for last as he finished just one place behind him, ensuring that it was a 2-3-4 for the Rochester based team.

Speaking after the final race of the weekend, Maranzana said: “It was a good race, but it was impossible to catch Cammish on my tyres. I am happy with my car – I know now that I have one with which I can fight him, and I am expecting at the next races to beat him.”

Dan Cammish now has a mammoth 199 point lead in the championship and looks set to collect the title next time out at Rockingham.
