Roy Gray had a fantastic weekend when the Caterham Supersport’s headed to Zolder for their latest races.
Roy managed to finish an impressive 13th place in his first race before going three better in the second race of the weekend, coming home in 10th spot.
It gives Gray the confidence that he needs going into the rest of the Supersport Championship as he looks to push into the top ten on a regular basis.
Reflecting on the season so far, Roy said: “Now that the race season has started again, the winter break seems a long time ago. It’s great to be back on track in the Caterham again.
“At the start of this season, I was hoping that I could improve and progress with my racing. With the great tuition from my Race Coach Luke Kidsley, and race support again from Team Parker Racing, that has happened earlier than I expected.”
The season is definitely one of progress so far from this time last season and that shows that Gray is moving forward round by round.
He added: “After only three race weekends so far this season, I am already up to 14th in the Supersport Championship. That’s higher than I’ve ever been, and I’m only nine points behind my total for last year! Hopefully the good results will continue throughout the season.”
It hasn’t all been plane sailing for Roy in the races so far this season, but he has come through any issues with class.
“The first race weekend this season at Snetterton wasn’t too bad for me. It was great to be racing again. Race one was eventful for the first race of the year with a safety car and a restart.
I finished 21st for Race one and 19th for Race two.
“Having a spin and collision at the start of a wet Race two at Donington wasn’t a great experience. It’s not fun sitting there facing the wrong way with cars racing towards you! I went from starting 11th on the grid to last place.
“I started to catch up and make places when, luckily for me, a safety car closed up the field so I was able to get back in with the pack. After all that I finished 12th. A good result considering what happened!
“This is the first season that I have stayed in the same class and the racing is as close and competitive as ever, but it’s still great fun. It’s even more enjoyable when you have good results.”
Zolder proved to be a very fruitful track for Kent’s Caterham competitors and Roy was no exception as he explains.
He said: “We’ve just returned from at Zolder in Belgium was a great experience. It’s a track most of us haven’t been to before, which made it more of a challenge.”
“With Luke’s coaching and my mechanic Scott keeping the car set up as good as it could be, we had the best weekend so far this season.”
“It was hot and sunny for both races, this meant the tyre grip decreased with each lap, but increased the fun in keeping the car on track. I finished 13th in Race one and 10th in Race two.”
“A good points scoring weekend and great results for me and the team.”
